Suzuki have sold a lot of V-Strom 1000 models and owners really fall for their easy-going nature and practicality. It's not the sexiest of adventure bikes but it is a really solid performer that just gets on with the job in hand - be that touring, commuting or just a nice ride out with either a solo rider or a pillion as well.

Full disclosure: I sold my V-Strom in 2014. I swapped between two different tires, the Shinko 705, which is hard to beat based entirely on price. It wasn't my favorite tire, but when I can get a set for $150, or whatever it used to cost, it made them hard to pass up. My favorite tire was the Metzeler Tourance.

Peak horsepower? 85.6 bhp @ 7,400rpm with peak torque 0f 63ft-lbs arriving at 5,000rpm. Interestingly the V-Strom has an overdrive top gear - well, a little green light blinks on and says O/D whenever you hook top anyway. It is a tall gear, and drops the revs to 4,000rpm at 70mph which equates to a very relaxed cruise.
